Farm Profile

Yawo farms began as a backyard vegetable garden at Pedu Estates in the Central Region in 1998. The farm was relocated to Ho (Ghana Food Distribution Corporation) yard from 1999 to 2003. During period, sheep were added to the vegetable farming.

The farm was finally established at Ayikuma Gbogbojiri in the Dangme West District Assembly in the year 2003. It was registered in 2004 with the Registrar General’s Department in October 2004 as an Animal husbandry and Cashew Plantation.

The reason for its relocation was that as an Area Manager for the defunct Ghana Food Distribution Corporation (GFDC), the farmer establishes a farm at any region he was transferred to. Our animals gaze on different types of grasses planted specially for them. We have planted fruit and special trees for their feeding which serve as a shade trees for them. Yawo Farms won the District best Sheep and Goat farmer award in 2007 and in 2009 won the Regional best Piggery award.

Our Approach

We started our as a backyard garden growing vegetables at Pedu estate bungalow number 149 at Cape Coast. When it was relocated to Ho in the yard of Ghana Food Distribution Corporation, we started rearing sheep in addition to the vegetable farming, because the land was big.

For the past 22 years we have been farming and truly love what we do. We have always been, and will continue to be, totally committed to the kind treatment we give to our animals during their life time. Their welfare is our utmost priority because we want to serve our customers with quality products. We have standby veterinary officers for any unforeseen circumstance that may arise.

We have introduced free range feeding systems for the animals and they roam happily grazing, enjoying freedom and rest under trees as if they are still in the wild. The grasses are always green because we spread manure on them and water them during the dry season.
